To be motivated in missions and give glory to God, we need zeal, a servant spirit and a merciful heart. This we see supremely in the life of the Lord Jesus. He became a servant, came in fulfillment of Old Testament promises and came that the nations may glorify God for His mercy (Rom.15: 8.9). We may look into the heart of the Lord, so to speak, when we read, ÒWhen he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they fainted and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then said he unto his disciples, the harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvestÓ (Matt.9: 36,38).
JesusÕ compassion came to expression in the call to pray for more missionaries in order that the Gospel may be preached to the nations and God may be glorified. From first to last, Jesus was moved by mercy, and not only in His life, but also in His death. ÒFor thou wast slain, and has redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue and people and nationÓ (Rev.5: 9).
We hope that these articles may also motivate you to continue to pray, support and be busy with the work of missions.
