The following day, Parliament held its final vote and debate on Bill C-250. The Liberal-dominated House of Commons approved the Socialist NDP amendment to the Criminal Code of Canada by a vote of 141 to 110. September 17th, 2003 may well go down in history as an ominous turning point in CanadaÕs history, having profound implications for freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom from sexual perversion. Bill C-250 is a private member's bill introduced by New Democrat, MP Svend Robinson, which amends the hate crime section of the Criminal Code by adding "sexual orientation" to a list of groups legally protected from incitement of hatred and genocide. Homosexuals, as Òall other citizens,Ó have the same protection and rights by law as all citizens. However, by adding Òsexual orientationÓ as an amendment to the Criminal Code, those who publicly speak out against homosexuality or any other aberrant sexual life style as sin, could be subject to arrest, arraignment, and a criminal trial with potential imprisonment for a maximum term of five years. Such a person would immediately have a criminal record that would affect his family, employment status, employability, and international travel. Bill C-250 could even be used to ban the Bible as hate literature because it condemns a homosexual life style. (From FamilyFacts and from The Christian Coalition International Canada)
This is an extremely serious matter. Our parliament stands in the gates of Sodom, which should alarm everyone who holds to the truths of Scripture. What can we do? We must pray and act, as many have done already before Bill C-250 went to Parliament. What we can still do is to make urgent and immediate contact with any Members of the Senate to ensure that Bill C-250 does not receive passage and Royal Assent. Bill C-250 is a dangerous Bill that is inconsistent with Canadian traditions and a free and democratic society; it must be stopped.
