United Reformed Churches of North America
Written by Rev. H.A. Bergsma
Seceders from the Christian Reformed Church have taken the final step, from Independents to uniting, and have organized into a new denomination calling themselves United Reformed Churches of North America. At a meeting held on October 1 to 2 in Lynwood, IL, they convened a synod representing 8,343 members, spread over 38 congregations in Canada and the USA. The synod adopted the report of study committee on church order, guidelines for licensure, candidacy, ordination, colloquium doctum examinations, and liturgical formularies. The synod adopted a recommendation that it adopt the liturgical forms printed in the (Christian Reformed) Psalter Hymnal, Centennial Edition (1976). The United Reformed synod scheduled its next meeting to be held from October 21-23, 1997, at Trinity Orthodox Reformed Church of St. Catharines, Ontario. (Gleaned from the Christian Observer).
