LIGHT IN DARKNESS

In this fourth message now in our series on Joseph, we meet with Joseph in Egypt, unjustly imprisoned in a place which he himself refers to as a dungeon. It was not a pleasant place to be, of that we may be sure!

The purpose of this message is to proclaim on the basis of God's Word, that there is no situation ever so dark that God's light cannot stream into it and make all the difference for good, beyond even our wildest hopes and expectations. Perhaps someone listening today needs to hear this message. You are downcast and discouraged, seeing only a tunnel of darkness and no light in it or at the end of it. Listen to this true story about Joseph in the dungeon long ago and be encouraged with him, seeing light in his circumstances and hope in his dreary imprisonment.

At the end of Genesis 39 we read that the Lord was with Joseph even in the prison. Sometimes it seems we can say that so easily in dark and dismal situations and yet not feel that it is so at all! We may be sure, however, that Joseph really experienced and knew that the Lord was with him there in his prison cell and dungeon dwelling. One sign of this was the prison keeper's liking and favour towards him, as mentioned in chapter 39:21. Joseph had no reason to believe that the warden would be anything but his enemy
